In July 2023, GRDF released a call for projects focusing on Digital Solutions for Optimizing Feedstocks and Biology in Anaerobic Digestion. The Anessa Team is beyond excited to announce that we have been selected as one of the winning projects. This milestone achievement in GRDF’s competitive Call For Projects showcases Anessa’s role in revolutionizing the optimization of anaerobic digestion projects through cutting-edge digital solutions.

GRDF is the main gas-distributing company in France and Europe. GRDF has designed, built, and currently operates over 200,000 km of gas distribution network and distributes gas safely to its 11 million customers. In December 2023, 646 anaerobic digestion sites were producing and injecting biomethane into metropolitan France’s Network, including 541 on GRDF networks (84%), with an installed capacity of more than 11 TWh/year

The Call for Projects was aimed at start-ups, manufacturers, producers, universities, equipment suppliers and companies across the biogas industry. Projects pitched had to address at least one of the following issues:

  • Gain a better understanding of input properties, based for example on rapid on-site characterization methods adapted to anaerobic digestion situations where input sources are varied and changing (e.g. units processing urban biowaste);
  • Help producers make the right decisions regarding input preparation, planning and incorporation;
  • Optimize the anaerobic digestion process in terms of product quantity and quality.

“We are thrilled and honored to be chosen as one of the winners in GRDF’s Call for Projects,” said Farough Motasemi, CTO at Anessa. “This recognition highlights our commitment to driving innovation in the biogas industry. Our specialized software solutions are designed to redefine the landscape of data-driven decision-making in the biogas industry, enabling greater efficiency and sustainability.”

Anessa’s AI-driven suite of products enables the development of digital twins for every biogas plant enabling them to model, optimize and monitor the plant performance continuously using different predictive and reactive analytical models. The winning project proposed by Anessa consists of integrating their solution on a pilot French AD unit with the help of a partner, enabling the operation with data-driven insights, developing artificial intelligence models specific to the installation, and showcasing the technical and environmental benefits of an integrated operational software model within a biogas plant.
